Description - Experiencing Guyana

Guyana as you already know is a huge and diverse country — and this Over Land Guyana tour introduces you to its incredible variety of landscapes, cultures and experiences in just two weeks. Travelling from the capitol city of Georgetown through the jungle and Savanas and to the town of Lethem which neighbors with Brazil, you’ll start out on laid-back, cozy hotel with Wonderfull Guyana food and visit our magnificent Kaiteur falls. Then pass through dense forests before arriving at the Iwokrama River lodge. Here you will spend a few days scouting the area for birds and wildlife, hiking and boat trips. Our tour continues to the Canopy walkway where you will spend one night at the Atta Rain Forest Lodge. This unique place is built in the middle of the rainforest and you are bound to have special guests greeting you from the rain forest like the red brocket deer and tapir and also the red howler monkeys.

This Over Land Guyana tour continues on to the village of Surama where you will start to experience a bit of the Savana world. Here you will stay at the Surama Lodge which is completely managed by the village and revenue goes towards their people, school, health centers and development of roads.

Crossing into the Savanas you will find yourself at the Rock View Lodge owned by an English man who fell in love with this country and decided to make it his home. Here you will be treated like royalty with a lovely swimming pool to relax, some rum and lime juice to cool off and of course listen to amazing stories from the owner himself of his journey across this beautiful country. After we say good bye to Rock View Lodge, we head deeper in the Savanas to the Karanambo ranch known for a special woman name Diane McTurk who save wild otters orphan them until they can be safely placed back in the wild. Here you will have amazing views of giant otters and the famous Vitoria Riga lily while drinking their delicious passion fruit punch as the sun sets. Your journey will continue on towards the Caiman house Lodge another establishment own by the village of Yupukari. Caiman House is a centre for ecological and educational research focused on the black caiman (Melanosuchus niger), the largest member of the alligator family. Guests of the lodge have the unique opportunity to support and participate in our field work by observing caiman capture and the opportunity to assist in data collection as researchers weigh, measure, sex, and RF-tag specimens out on the Rupununi River at night.

This tour then takes you back to the capitol city of Georgetown for your flight back home
